When you are visiting downtown Sturgis, you won’t want to miss Whiskey Tango Foxtrot located on Main Street in the back of Emma’s Ice Cream Emporium.
Amy Groves, the owner, describes the military themed tap bar.
“So, this definitely is military themed. My husband is a retired sergeant major, so we wanted to do beers that you could pour yourself, but we wanted a military theme. So, I’ll tell you a bit about the beer itself. We have this system where you come in and you get a card and you can come back to any of our 26 beers and wines and you can pour your own beer by the ounce. So no waitress needed. If the service is bad, it’s your own fault. And that’s what it is. You can sit back here and try all these different beers, and you’re not committed for anything more than, you know, $0.50 for an ounce of beer, if you hate it or if you love it, fill it up.”
Groves explains that the whole point is to get everyone to try new things. She also says, “And while you’re sitting here, we want you to play some games, hang out with your friends. You can even order food over from Emma’s because we got sandwiches and desserts, and we’d be happy to bring it over here. We just want a nice place where people can hang out. The music’s not blaring, you can have a conversation, just have a good time. We want to create that in a building when you walk in a six foot tall drill sergeant statue is going to greet you.”
It was important to Groves for everything done was done locally. The six foot statue was made by one of the Dahl brothers and all local craftsmen built the place and all the arts were local including all of the military paraphernalia.
