LEAD-DEADWOOD, S.D. – Twin Cities Animal Shelter of Lead hosts multiple fundraising events each year to support their spay and neuter program.
The shelter is supported by the city, but the non-profit has to pay for the other services and programs they offer.
On Saturday from 1 to 9 p.m., volunteers for the shelter set up shop at Lee Station in Deadwood for their annual Corn Fest.
“This allows us to continue our programs for the community,” said Connie Schlepp, Volunteer for Twin Cities Animal Shelter. “The city operates and pays expenses for the shelter itself, but we have to come up with our own funding for the spay and neuter and the community food, things like that.”
Roughly one thousand ears of corn were donated to the shelter’s fundraiser. Folks were able to have grilled corn on the cob, and cobs to-go, with the option of grabbing some ribs as well.
The shelter will also be hosting a rummage sale Saturday, September 12 at Manuel Brothers Park in Lead.
Anyone interested in donating items can drop them off Friday night.
