A helping hand: Good Samaritan honored by Mayor Allender for assisting injured neighbor

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Kindness can go a long way.

Justin Fast Wolf of Rapid City was more than just kind in the way that he may have saved his neighbor’s life.

Fast Wolf was honored by Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender on Tuesday. Given a Certificate of Recognition for helping an injured elderly neighbor who had sustained injuries after falling earlier this summer. He is a young man with disabilities who is supported by Black Hills Works. The elderly neighbor has since recovered from his injuries.

During Tuesday’s ceremony, Fast Wolf was accompanied by staff members of Black Hills Works. The ceremony took place in Council Chambers.

Mayor Allender provided the following comments:

“It is my pleasure to honor the character and compassionate behavior of local resident, Justin Fast Wolf. Earlier this year, Justin selflessly aided an elderly neighbor who had fallen and sustained injuries. Good Samaritans like Justin help renew and sustain the Rapid City spirit by committing themselves to being good neighbors,” Allender said.

“Rapid City’s greatest natural resource is its people, and we rely on the actions of Good Samaritans and volunteers to enrich our Rapid City Community,” Allender continued. “Justin, a young man with disabilities supported by Black Hills Works, ran out of his apartment without concern for his own personal health, to assist his elderly neighbor. The gentleman is doing fine today, in large measure due to Justin’s quick actions and compassion.”

 Allender also went on to say,

“It is Black Hills Works’ vision to help create a community where all people are good neighbors, valued friends, productive workers, respected leaders, and caring volunteers. Justin Fast Wolf has, in being a good neighbor, helped advance this vision and has shown that he truly cares about his community and the people in it. He is most deserving of our recognition and appreciation for selflessly aiding an injured elderly member of our community.”
