SPEARFISH, S.D. — The Rotary Park in Spearfish has a new outdoor attraction, a memorial peace and pollinator garden.
Championed by the Northern Black Hills Rotary in Spearfish, and with the collaborative efforts of Beautify Spearfish and Spearfish Parks and Recreation, the pesticide-free plot is more than just a garden. Located in the middle of a memorial which commemorates the service of Rotarians who have passed, the pollinator garden sprouts many flowers and plants including lilies, daisies, sage and mums.
Also embedded in the garden, a symbol of Rotary International’s commitment to maintaining peace.
“The peace and pollinator garden what that brings to Spearfish is number one a peace poll and that proclaims ‘may peace prevail on earth’ in four North American languages and then the pollinator part is because we all need to do more to be kind to our environment. To the planet on which we live,” says Dana Eberhard, past President of the Social Club and present Secretary of Northern Black Hills Rotary in Spearfish.
The park also displays a jumbo xylophone for the public to play, a musical venture proposed by the Kenadi Jean Weiss Foundation.
The project sets to put all accessible musical instruments throughout the City of Spearfish. They are hoping other organizations will take charge in doing the same in their cities.
