DEADWOOD, S.D. — A local family is overwhelmed by the outpouring of support they have been receiving from the community.
Vivian Wittmayer is 13-years-old and has been diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma, a rare form of bone cancer, after finding a lump in her foot.
Saloon Number 10 in Deadwood hosted a silent auction for the Wittmayer and Sprague families. All items up for grabs were donated.
Vivian lives in Lead but has been undergoing treatments in Sioux Falls, as well as the mayo clinic in Minnesota. Vivian’s mom says the journey has been a challenging one, but her heart is full.
“I am humbled. I am grateful and I am very thankful for everybody. This is huge. I was not anticipating this” said Emily Sprague.
Vivian’s dad, Corey Wittmayer, says the kindness of strangers during this difficult time has been overwhelming.
“It’s such a difficult hard situation and to see so much love come from everywhere,” Wittmayer said. “It leaves me speechless, you know? I don’t know how you can put it into words. It’s just amazing.”
To beat this unique disease, Vivian has to go through 14 rounds of chemo plus six to eight weeks of radiation. So far, she has completed round four.
A GoFundMe page has been created for Vivian by her family for those who want to donate.
