Air & Space Museum collecting birthday cards to celebrate 101st birthday of WWII B-17 gunner Morry Crow

BOX ELDER, S.D. — TSgt Maurice “Morry” Crow, a WWII B-17 gunner, will celebrate his 101st birthday on Wednesday, March 31.

Crow is being honored in a private ceremony at the South Dakota Air and Space Museum, but with so many wanting to share their appreciation, the museum wants to collect birthday cards for him. The South Dakota Military History Forum set a goal of collecting 101 cards.

The cards will be presented to Mr. Crow during the celebration, and photos will be shared on the museum’s Facebook page afterwards.

The museum is trying to keep the collection a secret, but since Morry isn’t into social media, spreading the word there should be safe!

Morry is a WWII veteran and served as a B-17 top turret gunner and flight engineer. He received the Distinguished Flying Cross for combat action on more than 25 missions in Europe. He’s credited with one aerial victory, is a Purple Heart recipient, and received a unit Presidential Citation, among other air medals. He is also being inducted into the prestigeous Distinguished Cross Society.

John Mollison did a two-day interview with Morry for his website, Old Men and Their Planes, which will be available for visitors to the museum to view in the future.
