Allender names Aug. 1-7 as Farmers Market Week

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Mayor Steve Allender has declared August 1-7 as Farmers Market Week, coinciding with National Farmers Market week.

The Black Hills Farmers market, in operation for more than three decades, provides producers an opportunity to share their agricultural goods with consumers looking for healthy, local and regional foods.

 “Farmers markets serve as significant outlets by which small-to-medium, new and beginning, and veteran agricultural producers market agricultural products, generating revenue that supports the sustainability of family farms and the revitalization of rural communities nationwide,” Allender’s proclamation reads.

Councilwoman Laura Armstrong will present the proclamation Wednesday at 9 a.m. at the Farmers Market on Omaha Street.

The Black Hills Farmers Market operates May through October on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.,  July through October on Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and November through April on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. Summer curbside pickup is available on Wednesdays July through October from 9:30 to 10 a.m. and on Saturdays from November to June from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Click here for more information.
