Allender to issue World Habitat Day proclamation October 4

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Rapid City Mayor Steve Allender will present a proclamation during Monday’s City Council meeting to denote the day as World Habitat Day.

The World Habitat Day proclamation recognizes the efforts of Black Hills Area Habitat for Humanity in providing more than 300 families with affordable housing solutions. It also acknowledges the continued need for more than 3,500 homes in the Rapid City area.

“This is just a way to emphasize the importance of affordable housing, the work that Black Hills Habitat for Humanity does, and to really tip a hat to those volunteers those professionals that have been involved with the program over these years,” says Darrell Shoemaker, communications coordinator with the City of Rapid City.

More secure housing provides benefits for individuals and families, including promoting improved health, civic engagement, serves as a source of dignity and respect, and as a basis to pursue other rights.
