RAPID CITY, S.D. — Construction of the Ascent Innovation Center next to the main Rapid City Post Office continues.
It’s still on schedule to be completed in the spring of 2021 (March 1), as the construction on the facility began 14 months ago.
Elevate Rapid City hopes it will reflect what the Black Hills offer, such as outdoor activities, along with downtown amenities.
The 40,000 square foot incubator will also provide more space for entrepreneurs and tech businesses to come to Rapid City.
“We’re already seeing companies from the west coast looking at Rapid City from Silicon Valley, and part of the reason they like downtown is because of the incubator, so the incubator is going to be focused on the technology side of things, so it’s probably not going to be retail,” said Tom Johnson, the President and CEO of Elevate Rapid City.
Elevate hopes that the Ascent Innovation Center will also contribute to its goal of bringing more people downtown.
