RAPID CITY, S.D. – Betty’s Quiltery hosted its first food drive inside of their store, and all food donations are going to Feeding South Dakota. The quilting shop has been a staple of the community for almost a decade. Owner Betty Opp says she wanted to use her platform to give back and has been toying with the idea of a food drive for two years.
She says after the year we’ve had, the world needs to readjust its needle.
“I think this year is the year to be kind. I think 2021 needs to change the whole world and I want to do my little part in doing that” said Opp.
Opp says the response was overwhelmingly better than expected. For each food item donated, quilting enthusiasts and non-quilters alike received a fat quarter as a thank you. As for whether Betty’s Quiltery will make this successful launch an annual event, Betty says she doesn’t plan that far ahead but lives each day a moment at a time.
