DEADWOOD, S.D. – The Annual Biker Belles celebration was created by the Sturgis Buffalo Chip for two reasons: To raise awareness of the passion and diversity of women in motorcycling, and to raise money for local charities.
The Biker Belles celebrate women’s roles in shaping the culture, art, and history of motorcycling. It began as a ride just for women and has now expanded to a daylong event for everyone.
This year’s ride will honor one of the group’s members who passed away last year and some of the proceeds will go to a charity in her honor.
“This year we are honoring and remembering one of our dearest Biker Belle friends Jessi Combs.” Said Toni Woodruff, organizer of the Biker Belles. “So we’re wearing her bandanna to support the Jessi Foundation in honor and memory of her, we’re carrying her in our hearts.”
Riders come from all over the world have participated in the Biker Belles Ride and events. One of the Biker Belles participants rode her bike across the country with her group of friends.
“We rode out here, we actually started from Portland and rode to the Black Hills,” said Alisa, a Biker Belle from North Carolina. “And we’re onto Knoxville Tennessee where my group is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which is this year.”
The ride goes through Highway 385, Nemo Road, and Vanocker Canyon, before arriving at the Buffalo Chip.
