BLACK HAWK, S.D. — The Black Hawk Fire Department is helping to make sure those letters get to jolly Saint Nick this season.
There is a letter to Santa mail box just outside the fire station. If children put their return address on the letters, they will receive a letter back from Santa.
The mail box will be up until a week before Christmas.
Since the Parade of Lights is cancelled, the Fire Department put all the float lights on the station itself – a total of about 20,000 lights.
It’s their way of spreading Christmas cheer during the pandemic.
“We are here to serve the community. A lot of people, they are either on edge…it’s not normal right now for anybody in the world, especially in our community, so we are just wanting to lighten the situation up and try to do what we can, and still be within the standards of the whole social distancing and stuff like that,” says Drew Klunder, Deputy Chief with the Black Hawk Fire Department.
The Fire Station will also be driving Santa though the Black Hawk and Summerset neighborhoods before Christmas.
