Black Hills Farmers Market will remain open throughout the year

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Last year the Black Hills Farmers Market went inside to Western Dakota Technical Institute to sell goods.

This year because of the pandemic, they are choosing to stay outside, no matter the weather conditions. Unless severe weather has been indicated, they plan on staying open, protected by tents.

They will update social media accounts with weather related closures. The hours of operation will be Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Barbara Cromwell, the Manager for BHFM says that buying local products helps the local economy and the local farmer, saying, “You’re supporting the local economy, local businesses, just community connectiveness is so important right now.”

She also mentioned that eating and purchasing local produce adds to a healthy lifestyle.

Cromwell says, “The benefits to our own health…we are all more conscious of our own health this year, but to have, you know, highly nutritious, unprocessed foods is only going to be helpful.”

Tuesday through Thursday, customers can place orders online to be picked up curbside on Saturdays at Market Park on Omaha Street. The Wednesdays will begin again in June.
