RAPID CITY, S.D. — A group gathered at Old Storybook Island Saturday morning to support life. Held the day before Mother’s Day, the Walk for Life was sponsored by the Black Hills Pregnancy Center.
The center is a nonprofit organization that provides services for women and men involved in unexpected pregnancies. A few of the services include pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, parenting classes, and access to other resources.
The pregnancy center held an in-person and virtual 5K with the goal of raising $25,000.
Before the 5K began, there were several speakers who discussed the importance of pregnancy crisis centers, and a few guests with their own stories of unplanned pregnancies.
“Many people…they just don’t have support, or they don’t have food, or money for the light bill or whatever. So, they’re very distressed, and so we offer support for them, in that we are connected to the other agencies, and we refer to the other agencies in town for the food bank, or counseling, or whatever they might need,” said Monica Tanner, Office Manager.
Currently around $12,000 of the $25,000 has been raised – but there is still time to donate through July 1.
