LEAD, S.D. — To donate to Boxes of Hope, participants can drop off items at the Blackstone Lodge in Lead.
Donations go to the Boys and Girls Club, the Lord’s Cupboard Food Pantry and the Twin Cities Animal Shelter, all located in Lawrence County.
Donations can also be dropped off at Lynns Dakotamart in Lead.
Gift ideas for boxes include non-perishable food items for the pantry, children’s size hats, gloves and socks, art supplies, or snacks for the Boys and Girls Club and pet food or cat litter for the Twin City Animal Shelter.
Linda Ahlers, Senior Executive Hospitality Management Manager at Blackstone Lodge and Suites, says, “People that have the ability to give – it seems to be this time of year when they really want to do that. I call them the unsung heroes because they bring things, they donate, and no one ever knows that they have done that, which is what Christmas is about – it comes from the heart.”
Lynn’s Dakotamart receipts from food or gas purchases can also be dropped off at Lynn’s to go toward the Twin City Senior Center.
Ahler adds, “I always feel that Christmas is that time…where it’s a new hope; it’s hope for the next year to be brighter and better. And I think this year is especially important; there is so many people in need especially of food to get themselves through.”
Donations will be accepted until December 21st.
