Career Learning Center of the Black Hills helps students on the right career path

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Participants of the Career Learning Center can enroll in GED prep classes, computer and keyboarding classes, job specific training and alternative high school learning and more.

Participants can also gain career counseling and test for professional certifications.

The Career Learning Center also provides resources needed for students to up-skill, re-skill and have upward mobility in their career path.

The cycle of poverty can be a hard one to break, but with proper resources, it’s more attainable to get on your feet.

Stephenie Rittberger, the adult education coordinator at the Career Learning Center, says, “As a community, if we can put some resources into ensuring skills at a higher level, we’re ensuring a higher quality community, and we’re ensuring that the students that leave here can enter the workforce in a really modified way that that allows them to earn a living wage.”

Rittberger goes on to say that one of the highest indicators of return on investment for participants is their earning potential  increases and with their success may also indicate their children’s future achievements.

Ivory Hanson, a student at the Career Learning Center, says, “I think it’s very important because people need a chance to gain more or do better if they wanted to and tried to succeed in life.”

Mayor Allender and Governor Noem also back the efforts. C.L.C serves 300 individuals in an average year.
