RAPID CITY, S.D. — Friday, August 20, the Central States Fair ribbon cutting will be the official opening of activities.
This year’s line up will have much of the traditional favorites like midway carnival, German tent, and free entertainment stages.
Some new attractions include the longhorn show and Shadow Warriors Project. Grand stand events will be supercross, demolition derby, concerts, and the rodeo.
The youth livestock show in the James Kjerstad Event Center is free to the public to watch beginning Friday, August 20th.
Amanda Kammerer, Marketing Livestock Director at the Central States Fair, says the livestock show is a great experience for youth.
“You know, it’s kinda like 4H, but it’s just an open show, they don’t have to be a part of 4H. It’s great for these kids to get involved at an early age and it you know keeps them going through their life,” Kammerer says.
Ron Jeffries, Central States Fair Manager, says, “We roll in the Black Hills Energy Concert series starting on Sunday night. We’ve got Kip Moore and Michael Ray. We’ve got Joe Nichols and Chase Bryant, and then we’ve got Travis Tritt and High Valley. Three great shows it’ll be a lot of fun from high energy to classic country all the way through -just a great concert lineup. ” Jeffries goes on to say, “Then we start the rodeo action. Now we’ve got three nights of PRCA rodeo action. The first one Wednesday night, the middle Thursday, we go to the PRCA Xtreme Bronc Finals and folks this is one of the five finals that the PRCA puts on throughout the entire nation. Of course, the WNFR being the largest, the Wrangler National Finals in Vegas. This one is the Saddle Bronc Championships we have cash prize money going into this thing and it’s the single largest payday in saddle bronc history and then we’ll finish out the rodeo action on Friday and Saturday with PRCA Range Days Rodeo.”
Jeffries also mentioned that Wednesday is the First Responders Night, so any law enforcement, ambulance, EMT, and also fire firefighters get on grounds and into the rodeo for free – and on Friday night, it’s Military Appreciation.
