RAPID CITY, S.D. — As of Wednesday, we’re 100 days away from the fiftieth anniversary of the 1972 Fast Metropolis Flood, and the Metropolis has been planning for months. Now they’re asking for the residents enter on how they’d prefer to see the occasion commemorated.
The flood occurred on June 9, 1972 and brought on 238 deaths and a whole bunch of hundreds of thousands in property harm.
Two open homes are scheduled subsequent week, the primary on March 10 on the Journey Museum from 6-8 p.m., after which the following day from 2-4 p.m. on the Fast Metropolis Public Library.
“After we speak about what’s so essential about 50 years; there’s been so many generations of recent neighborhood members who’ve come to Fast Metropolis. Then there’s individuals who perhaps weren’t part of what occurred throughout this time they usually don’t perceive,” says Troy Kilpatrick, Govt Director of the Journey Museum.
Kilpatrick says plenty of occasions are within the works for the anniversary, which shall be held over June 8, 9, and 10.
“We need to keep in mind…we need to keep in mind the lives that had been misplaced,” Kilpatrick added. “We need to keep in mind the occasion for a way particular it was. We need to honor…we need to honor the lives that had been misplaced. We need to honor the leaders of the time; the individuals who helped form Fast Metropolis as a neighborhood.”
