Through an initiated measure on Tuesday, Hill City residents voted 158 to 138 to ban vacation properties within the metropolis residential areas.
“We’re landlocked. This is what we have now. If all of it goes away to vacation properties, that’s what we get,” mentioned Angie Ross, a Hill City resident.
Ross introduced the measure ahead, citing many issues for the neighborhood’s housing marketplace for households and its workforce.
“If we maintain permitting vacation properties to eat up our residential housing, that goes away,” Ross mentioned. “We don’t have youngsters transferring in. We don’t have households transferring in. The Hill City ban comes because the Custer metropolis council voted 3 to 2 to amend an ordinance it handed in 2018 — successfully banning short-term rental models in residential areas.
