RAPID CITY, S.D. — This week, March 22 – 26, is the Club for Boys 27th annual Corporate Free Throw Challenge, where businesses or organizations pay $200 to shoot 25 free throws with a chance to win plaques and bragging rights with a traveling trophy.
It’s also a chance for the community to tour the facility and have lunch.
Fundraisers like this are important to help the outreach of the Club.
Chantel McDonnell, the Director of Development at the Club for Boys of Rapid City, says, “This is one of our events that we will continue to do every single year. It gets the community down – they get to see our facility and just get to see where the boys get to hang out every single day.”
The donations keep the membership cost down – only $12 a year per member. The money raised at this week-long event goes to the many programs they offer the boys, including the athletic program.
McDonnell says, “Over 90% of our funds come from our community, and that helps us keep our annual fee for our members at $12 a year, because we always want to make sure that it’s affordable so that every boy can come down here and if the boys can’t afford the $12, there are always ways we can scholarship them in.”
