The Children’s Miracle Network got its start in 1983 with the mission to help cover the cost of medical care for children. Since then, they have raised over seven billion dollars, most donations raised only one dollar at a time. Children’s hospitals like Monument Health rely on the kind donations of their communities to improve the lives of as many children as possible.

Mary Ann Christensen is incredibly grateful to the Children’s Miracle Network. After giving birth by emergency c-section, her son, Gaven, was flown out to Minneapolis Children’s Hospital for congenital heart defects. Children’s Miracle Network paid for his father, Dylan Smith, to go to Minneapolis to be with his son while Christensen was healing in Rapid City. Since then, Gaven has turned seven and has had four open-heart surgeries and thirteen hearth catheters. The Children’s Miracle Network also helped with gas expenses to take their son to Omaha for several other health-related trips. “We are thankful for this organization. It has helped take some of the burdens off us,” says Christensen. As Gaven’s family looks to the future they know that they may need Children’s Miracle Network’s help again and are grateful the organization will be there.
