DEADWOOD, S.D. — Halloween is fast-approaching, and if you’re looking to get into the spirit (pun intended) Deadwood has the perfect opportunity.
In a perfect mix of history and intrigue, the Adams House is opening it’s doors to paranormal investigators and enthusiasts alike.
The museum boasts stunning architectural details and original furnishings – absolutely worth a visit during daylight hours – but the perfect backdrop for an after-hours adventure.
“People think that Deadwood is haunted – a lot of people believe that – and they believe that specific sites here in Deadwood are haunted, and the Adams House happens to be one of those sites,” says Rose Speirs, communications director for Deadwood History, Inc.
If you think it’s all for show – you might be surprised – the investigators are healthy skeptics themselves.
Maurice Miller, lead investigator with Black Hills Paranormal Investigations, says, “We do try to come up with scientific reasons why things aren’t haunted, but we haven’t been able to do that at the Adams House, you see.”
Groups are given a tour of the museum in the dark, accompanied by a paranormal investigator and their equipment. BHPI says they’ve seen activity every year since they started in 2010 – which is why they keep coming back.
“In the Adams House we have seen shadow figures…we get all kinds of interaction with flashlights and with our EMF detectors and things…people have heard things…we catch EVP’s,” Miller says.
An opportunity to witness activity first-hand.
Miller says, “The public gets a chance to see what we do versus the things you see on TV…so what happens here the people get to witness and experience it just like we do.”
And if you’re a skeptic…
“Please come, please come, we welcome that,” Miller adds.
Your last chance to participate in a paranormal investigation at the Adams House is Friday, Oct. 22 or Saturday, Oct. 23 – but not to worry – the event has been held around Halloween for the last decade, and shows no signs of stopping.
