RAPID CITY, S.D. — The City of Rapid City announced Thursday that the deadline to place winter apparel on downtown statues is Monday, March 15.
This is the sixth winter that the City has authorized placing clothing on the statues to bring awareness and provide items for those in need.
Annual four-month winter project has become popular with residents/church/community groups with hundreds of items placed on the statues. Gloves/scarves/stocking caps placed on statues Nov 15-Mar 15. Mayor Allender initiated the project in November 2015 and the Council passed a resolution in spring 2016 establishing a four-month window, from November 15 to March 15, to place items.
After March 15, placing items on the statues is discouraged and the items may be removed.
