BOX ELDER, S.D. — While some members of the Class of 2022 are definitely able to say goodbye to their highschool hallways, there are others cherishing the recollections they’ve created in them.
As for the Douglas High School Class of 22′, some of the recollections started within the hallways of their elementary schools. On Wednesday, all 173 members of the Patriots graduating class made their means down the halls of Box Elder Elementary schools, Vandenberg and Patriot Elementary.
There have been greeted with keen and outstretched palms of the present elementary college students, in search of an uplifting “high-five” from their older function fashions.
For the scholars that stayed in Douglas School District for all 13 years of their training, it even gave them the prospect to meet up with previous academics, some that impacted their lives endlessly.
Gracie Chapman, who attended the Douglas School District all over commencement, might be attending Buena Vista University in Iowa and can play volleyball and run observe for the Beavers.
She says it been tough watching some college students depart over time, with their mother and father being stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base. But Chapman says that it’s been enjoyable watching everybody develop up into the individuals they’re now.
“With the bottom being right here, quite a bit of individuals depart, quite a bit, after which so those that have caught round,” Chapman stated. “It’s variety of actually laborious to let go of everyone however I wouldn’t commerce the place I went to high school in any respect.”
The college students’ journey again to their previous elementary schools was equally as particular for the academics that taught them alongside the way in which.
Mary Coates, who’s taught kindergarten within the Douglas School District for 34 years, says that she’s loved educating the children and is proud of seeing all of them grown up.
“I’ve bought children of children that I’ve had, so typically I name them by their mother and father names the primary couple of weeks I’ve them till I get used to the truth that their mother and father are grown now and and on their means,” Coates stated fondly. “But I’ve had quite a bit of generations of kids and college students and it’s only a actual honor to see them walk down the corridor and taking that subsequent step and inspiring their training, to allow them to at all times continue to grow.”
The DHS class of 22′ will graduate on Saturday, May 22 at The Patriot stadium at 2 p.m.
