Dog lovers flock to annual K9 3K and Dog Carvinal

RAPID CITY, S.D. — On Saturday, the Humane Society of the Black Hills hosted its annual K9 3K and Dog Carnival.

The third year event 3k included contests and prizes for the dogs, including waggiest tail, biggest smile and best trick.

Dog lovers were also able to get their furry friends some exercise and even a free bath.

A 10 dollar registration fee was asked but not required for entry.

Those donations go towards giving back to animal and community care.

Jerry Steinley, the Executive Director of the Humane Society of the Black Hills says that events like this gives him and his staff an opportunity to give back and connect with the community.

“This event and a lot of the events we do really its just a way that we can kinda get back and say hello to people, meet their dogs, meet our supporters, and just kinda give back to them since they’ve given so much to us, so that’s why we do these events,” Steinley said. “We keep trying to serve the community and this is just one more way we can connect with them.”

Event goers were even able to pie an animal services officer in the face. It cost two dollars and helped raise money.
