Each year many of the children in state custody, whether in group care facilities, kinship care, or foster care are able to enjoy Christmas gifts thanks to donations from the community.
Participants can sign up for a specific item or child or gift card retailer and amount.
Andrea Hemeyer, DSS foster care licensing and adoption supervisor, says, “All of our kids get super excited about the guardian tree, from toddlers to teens…just to be able to know that somebody in the community cared about them and gave them something very special just lights them up. It’s a wonderful thing to see and they really appreciate that somebody in their own community is thinking about them during the holidays.”
Gifts need to be returned no later than December 5, 2020. Participants are welcome to send online purchases directly to our office at 510 N Cambell Street, Rapid City SD 57701 or to email gift cards purchased online to Lara.Dyer@state.sd.us
Drop off times (dock doors on the south side of the building) are: December 4 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and December 5 from 8 a.m. – 10 a.m.
