CUSTER, S.D. — The Crazy Horse Memorial will host it’s eighth annual “Fall Volksmarch” this weekend, part of a special two-day event.
The Volksmarch is a hike just over six miles that takes you to the top of the mountain for an up-close and personal view of the memorial.
The Volksmarch is usually a bi-annual hike taking place during the Spring and Fall. This year’s Fall Volksmarch will be a special two-day event since the Spring Volksmarch was canceled.
Every year the Volksmarch gives people a chance to get a closer look at all the progress being made on the Crazy Horse Memorial.
“It’s just amazing the work on the hand that they have been doing it’s fantastic, I mean it’s just really a great opportunity to see all the incredible changes that they have been doing,” said Amanda Allcock, Director of Sales and Tourism at Crazy Horse Memorial.
Crazy Horse Memorial is also asking guests to bring in canned food to donate to the Care and Share Food Drive that will be providing food all across the Black Hills.
“It’s really wonderful to be able to help the hungry in all the hills not just in this local area, but all the hills,” Allcock said. “So for people to be able to give back, come and enjoy family time and give back to the community is really special.”
Crazy Horse Memorial is the largest mountain carving in progress in the world and began construction in 1948.
