Ellsworth taking part in Global Thunder 22 exercise

ELLSWORTH AIR FORCE BASE, S.D. – Global Thunder 22, U.S. Strategic Command’s annual exercise is underway.

Global Thunder 22 will include an increase in bomber aircraft flights throughout the exercise, including multiple sortie generations in short windows of time. Communities may notice heavier than normal bomber take offs throughout the duration of the exercise.

Ellsworth will have extended airfield operating hours during the exercise. Normal airfield operations and maintenance activities may include early morning flying during these days and increased night flying operations.

Global Thunder 22, in support of U.S. Strategic Command, includes training opportunities to enhance readiness and ensure a safe, secure, ready and reliable strategic deterrent force with a specific focus on nuclear readiness.
