RAPID CITY, S.D. – Some of the country’s most decorated professional rodeo cowboys and cowgirls are set to converge on the Black Hills for the 44th annual Rodeo Rapid City.
The nine-day event kicks off Friday at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center with the PRCA Xtreme Bulls Tour followed by the Xtreme Broncs Match on Saturday.
The four PRCA rodeo performances will be held February 4-6.
This year, Rodeo Rapid City will feature 866 contestants from around the country.
Rodeo Rapid City was recently named the 2020 PRACA Large Indoor Rodeo of the Year.
Rodeo Rapid City has been nominated for the award 19 times, winning it twice before in 2002 and 2003.
“This is going to be our 44th year in this building, said Steve Sutton from Sutton Rodeo. “Dad came here in 78 and asked the brand new building if they could fill the floor with dirt. They’re sure glad they did now because of the all the awards this rodeo has won. And it is special. That’s like winning the bucking horse of the year. That’s the biggest honor you can have and the competition is stiff.”
