THIS DAY IN WEATHER HISTORY: 2002: High winds from a severe thunderstorm tipped over trailers and damaged a barn north of Clareton in rural Weston County.
FIRE WEATHER WATCH is now out for the following areas: Sheridan County, portions of Johnson County, All of Campbell & Weston County, the majority of Crook County, as well as portions of Lawrence, Pennington, Custer, Fall River, all of Carter & Harding County. This is in effect from Saturday, September 5th at Noon, until Saturday, September 5th at 8:00 PM. Low humidity, as well as increasing winds and temps back in the 90’s will be the main issue. Please be careful this Labor Day Weekend.
FORECAST: Cooling off this weekend!
After having a high of 94 yesterday, we are going to cool off just a smidge. Highs will be in the upper 70’s – Low 80s today. We will go back into the Mid 80’s tomorrow before we see a high of 96 on Saturday (NOTE: The Record high for that date is 101 which was set back in 1978.)
TODAY: Sunny skies will be the rule. Wind, it’ll be around. Forecast high today is 79 with winds out of the NW at around 5-15 MPH
TONIGHT: Let’s call it a 3 C Night! (The 3 C’s are Clear, Calm & Cool) with winds out of the North at around 5-10 MPH
As mentioned yesterday, we are dropping the temperatures as we go from the 90’s on Saturday, to highs in the low 50s by Tuesday. Some places will struggle to even see 50 degrees. We go from Shorts and T-Shirt weather to sweater and hot tea weather. Overnight lows will be in the mid 30’s. It is possible that some places could drop below freezing.
LOOKING AHEAD: Here’s a look at your Labor Day Forecast. I am not ruling out a chance of Precipitation, otherwise Mostly Cloudy skies will be the rule. We’ll see highs in the Low-Mid 60’s. I am going with 64 here in Rapid City.
