STURGIS, S.D. — It has been four days since the 2021 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally started, and the bikes keep roaring in.
As of Monday, the South Dakota Department of Transportation has counted 64,158 more vehicles that made their way to the Black Hills, bringing this years total to 252,737. That is 14.9% more than day fours total from last year.
Law enforcement has given out a total of 643 citations and 1,786 warnings so far this year, yet arrests for DUIs (21.9%), misdemeanor drug possessions (45.2%), and felony drug possessions (42.3%) are still down compared to 2020. The police, however, still continues to educate riders of the open container rules set specifically for the Sturgis Rally.
There have been 31 new temporary vending licenses has been issued by the City of Sturgis, raising the total to 760. An additional 2,000 official cups have been delivered to outlets on Monday, 12,800 in total, and only 32 COVID-19 requests have been made since Friday.
Rally officials has some more fun planned all day for Wednesday, starting with the Sturgis Motorcycle Hall of Fame Induction Breakfast in Deadwood at 9:00 a.m. followed by the Harley-Davidson Bike Show and Stunt Team at Harley-Davidson Way in Sturgis from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. If you have a beard and a mustache, you might want to get it groomed up in preparation for the Beard & Mustache Contest at Harley-Davidson Rally Point in Sturgis at 5:00 p.m.
