BOX ELDER, S.D. — The fourth annual Patriot Day in Box Elder brought families and the community together to recognize Ellsworth Air Force Base and all who have served.
Originally called “Salute to Ellsworth”, Patriot Day features a parade, games, food, a live band and much more.
The fact that it fell on the twentieth anniversary of 9/11 wasn’t planned, but Mayor Larry Larson says that it still holds great meaning for parents and the younger generations.
“This kind of gives the parents the chance to talk about it, maybe with the with the kids that weren’t around at that time,” Larson said. “They weren’t born or they were too young to understand what was happening. So it it it makes it makes it perfect time for them to talk to them about the event.”
Patriot day concluded with a firework show later this evening
