RAPID CITY, S.D. — A free, two-day, COVID-19 vaccine community event kicked off Tuesday near Rapid City Central High School at the intersection of Omaha Street and Mount Rushmore Road.
The event is hosted by the Oyate Health Center, Rapid City Indian Health Services, and FEMA – or the Federal Emergency Management Agency with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
Anyone 12-years-of-age and older is eligible.
If you received your first shot of the Pfizer or Moderna a vaccine, but not your second, medical experts say it’s crucial to get the second dose to receive the maximum amount of protection.
“We want you to be covered by that 94 percent, 96 percent efficacy rate that those vaccines are stating they cover, so you can come anytime and we do want people to get that second dose so a lot of people are hesitant after first dose if they get the flu-like symptoms but you’re really not covered until you get that second dose,” said Danielle Prudich, a COVID-19 Resource Nurse for Rapid City Indian Health Services.
The event continues Wednesday at Rapid City Central from 8 a.m. til 3 p.m.
