Conservation Officer Dekker is dedicated to teaching and implementing gun safety. In this video, he explains how to safely handle a Glock.
According to Dekker, Glocks come with detachable magazines which can hold different numbers of rounds depending on the caliber and size of the gun.
The first element of gun safety is establishing a safe range, which means no individuals are in the line of fire.
Next, Dekker explains the safest way to pass a firearm from one person to another.
“Any time in handing a weapon over to somebody, I’m going to make sure it’s safe,” said Dekker. “Actions open, safety’s on and it’s unloaded.”
Once the weapon is transferred from one person to another, the shooter can safely aim and fire at their target. After that, the shooter must unload the gun so they can safely inspect the target.
“All right, so now to make our gun safe from here, we would go ahead and we would take the magazine out. We still have rounds in there. And then we’re going to cycle the loaded round out of the chamber, lock the action open. So now that we can see the actions open, safety’s on and we can call cold range and go down and take a look at our target,” said Dekker.
Handling your Glock with care will guarantee a safe, enjoyable day at the range; however, only practice will improve your aim.
“The more the more time you spend at the range, the closer your grouping will be, the more accurate you can be with your shots,” said Dekker.
