Looking for an exciting way to explore the Black Hills? Gold Rush E-bikes offers hourly e-bike rentals from three locations: Rapid City’s Canyon Lake Resort, Custer State Park and a brand new location in Deadwood. The Canyon Lake Resort location even offers two-hour paddleboard rentals to enjoy out on the water.
Kyle Sander, owner of Gold Rush E-bikes, recommends renting the bikes at the Rapid City location for at least two hours at a time, that way bikers can enjoy all seven and a half miles of bike trails around the Canyon Lake area.
Gold Rush E-bikes is equipped with a wide selection of bikes for every kind of rider. Sander compares e-bikes to mountain bikes or any bike with gears, but the pedal assist is what makes the bikes electric. The bikes come in various height, comfort and accessibility options, such as step-through bikes for an easier mount and dismount. At some locations, Gold Rush E-bikes also offers Class 2 bikes, which features a throttle in addition to the pedal assist.
“A Class 2 allows you to not only have the pedal assist up to 20 miles an hour, but it also has a throttle, or what I call a boost, at any moment,” said Sander. “You want to take a break or you get tired, you just twist the throttle, and away that bike goes on its own.”
While the company offers e-bike and Class 2 e-bike rentals for individual riders, Gold Rush E-bikes provides plenty of family-friendly options for younger explorers.
“We want to make it family friendly with the e-bikes. It’s great for group events. The whole family can ride,” said Sander. “If somebody’s under 12 years old and not comfortable on the e-bike, we offer a tagalong. We also offer anybody that’s under 6, or in that age group, can ride in a trailer. The trailers are also multi-use. They can haul other things, whether it’s a cooler for lunch or hauling your buddy. You can also put your paddleboards in there.”
Reservations are recommended, especially for large groups; however, individual riders are welcome to stop by any location for a same-day rental.
Gold Rush E-bike locations are open 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Wednesday-Sunday. They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.
