RAPID CITY, S.D. — Golden West announced via Facebook on Tuesday that they will be receiving a $1.7 million ReConnect grant to provide broadband service west of Edgemont.
The 2.5 million dollar project has been in the works for two years, and now Golden West says that it is ready to begin construction. Upon its completion in 2021, 218 people, 65 farms and ranches, five businesses and one essential community facility will be connected to high-speed broadband internet.
In 2020, Golden West says it will add 500 miles of fiber and upgrade service for about 2,000 more members. Approximately two-thirds of the cooperative’s members now receive services at their home or business using advanced fiber-optic technology.
