Groundbreaking ceremony for new state “One Stop” complex held Friday

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A major groundbreaking in Rapid City for the one-stop complex, which will have several state agencies under one roof.

City leaders and other major players attended the ceremony for the state office complex, which will be located behind the Lowe’s store on Mall Drive.

It will be 100,000 square feet and house seven agencies – making it convenient for residents and business owners to take care of business.

Development firm Dream Design International says the building also has added benefits for the state as well.

“It creates some efficiencies and collaboration, utilizing some of the common areas like conference rooms, servers, stuff like that and that really helps save the taxpayers a lot of money too,” said Hani Shafai, President of Dream Design International.

With most of the state agencies already having offices around Rapid City, it made sense to bring them under one roof – making it easier to conduct business in this ever-growing region.

“This type of government service facility here is an answer to the expanding community. I don’t think it causes expansion but we are growing as a community and when that happens there needs to be more service and support for our citizens,” Mayor Steve Allender said.

A completion date has not yet been announced.

The new complex will house the bureaus of administration, information and technology, the DENR, the departments of health, human services, revenue and social services.
