The Hermosa Community Center was made in the late 1930s for the school to have community events. Despite being a building for community events, someone bought the building and turned it into a bar.
“So there was a bar and they had it for 10 years and they gave it to somebody else. They had it for two years, then foreclosed for two years, and that’s how we found it,” said Hermosa Community Center Manager Nick Brengle.
After passing through multiple owners, it eventually became the community center that it is today. And it certainly lives up to its name.
“So right now, we have an arcade in the basement. We have weddings booked for the next couple of years out already, and a lot of fundraisers coming up and community events like for Halloween and Christmas, we’re hoping to have some carnivals and stuff,” Nick said. “We’ll have a little Nerf night and also a big course upstairs and have a nice little brawl.”
The Hermosa Community Center is open Tuesdays and Thursdays:
- Tuesdays – 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
- Thursdays – 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Birthday parties, fundraisers and any other events need to be booked ahead of time.
Nick says he hopes to be more of a wedding or fundraiser venue in the future, and to be able to be open more for the community with more community events, and hopefully bring this community closer together as it grows.
