RAPID CITY, S.D. — Job placement rates continue to hold steady for graduates of the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.
According to the School of Mines, recent graduates of the class of 2019 are seeing a 96 percent placement rate either in their field of study or in graduate school. They are also seeing a pay raise from the previous class, making a little more than $66,500 annually, which the school says is up about $3,000 from the previous year.
A factor in the high job placement numbers is the real-world experience many School of Mines graduates bring to the table with 79 percent of students graduating with internship or research experience.
“So, you know they’re graduating with a great degree and they’re also graduating with communication skills, teamwork skills, a great attitude, a good ethical background,” says SDSM&T Director of the Career & Professional Development Center, Mathew Hanley. “You put all of that together, you have really talented students.”
About 31 percent of those graduates will be advancing their careers right here in South Dakota contributing to the economic development of the state.
