HILL CITY, S.D. — One way to cure a cold snap is with a hot bowl of chili.
Hill City is hosting the Breakin’ the Winter Blues Chili Cook Off on Saturday, January 16.
Participating businesses on Main Street will have a sign up indicating their participation in the cook off. They will be competing for bragging rights for the best white, red and other chili categories.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., folks can sample (for free) more than 15 pots of chili and vote for their favorite.
Janet Wetovick-Bily, Executive Director of the Hill City Area Chamber of Commerce says, “And the one piece of advice that I can give to people when they come to Hill City and join us on Main Street with are between 15-20 merchants who will have chili, is to come hungry, and to come early, too because by the time you come to the chili cook off you’re gonna want to save a little bit of room because you are going to want to sample all of the participating merchants chilis.”
And coming up in early February, Hill City will host the Tour de Chocolate and the Polar Bear Chili Cook Off.
Wetovick-Bily adds, “People can come and vote for their favorite chili in three different categories. It’s a great day to be out, you can social distance, you can be safe when you visit and you can just have a great time while you are trying all these wonderful, fabulous, secret recipes from our merchants.”
