RAPID CITY, S.D. — Hippie Haven is accepting dresses, shoes, and accessories through the end of March, Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Local students and families are invited to visit the store to pick out needed items through the month of April.
The goal of this event is to provide free resources for those who need them and reduce waste.
Chesca Cedillo, Store Manager and Events Coordinator at Hippie Haven, says, “85% of textiles get thrown away in the U.S. alone, so a good way to prevent that is just to reuse what we already have or do exchanges like this and try to reduce the amount of things that you buy new.”
Hippie Haven is located at 806 St. Joseph Street, across from Staple and Spice. They are also accepting suits during the prom dress drive.
Cedillo says, “It’s more economical, it’s a free resource for those who need it so it’s a win win situation, you are keeping dresses from the landfill – you are getting new, used dress and you are also getting it for free and now you have a place to take them if you are not going to use them.”
Hippie Haven will also be receiving the sustainability award from the City of Rapid City on Friday, March 26.
Hippie Haven will host a number of upcoming events like the Plant & Seed Market on March 27, Handmade Market on April 3, and Garbage Art Show April 10 – 24th for Earth Month.
