The 2nd Annual Rally Wrap Party will be held at the Buffalo Chip Campground, which is a fundraiser for the Treasured Lives Crisis House in Rapid City.
Kelly Patterson says, “I am the founder and Executive Director of Treasured Lives. We are a nonprofit anti-trafficking organization. We work in the capacity of helping survivors of sex trafficking from the very moment that they escape, until we’re able to help them find housing and safety. We move them if they need to be moved [and] provide food and just really anything that they need in the moment. We get them to medical appointments, doctor appointments, mental health, whatever is needed at the moment. Having been a survivor of sex trafficking myself and there were no places to turn when I had escaped, I saw a real need in this side of the state specifically, but actually in a multi-state area for something that would serve survivors in crisis. We really haven’t had a lot going on here to help people in that very crisis moment. And now that survivors know we’re there, we’ve become very, very busy as well, which is both a good thing and a sad thing. And we will be raising funds through MOTOvational, which is an organization out of California, to help fund a safe house, which is our ultimate goal. It’s called the Treasured House. And we are looking for donations that direction, not just through the wrap party, but all year long. It’s a big project that we hope to do because there’s a several hundred-mile radius with no help.”
Patterson says this is a redemptive story for her as she was trafficked at the Sturgis Rally decades ago. Rod Woodruff, owner of the Buffalo Chip wanted to help with the Kelly’s cause.
“We have a deal where we do things for different charities. The rally is a perfect opportunity to spread the word and have other people help, like contributing, dropping some money in the charitable bucket that stays right here in the Rapid City area. And so it’s a natural for us to to do. It’s a good cause.”
Bryan Carroll a Hollywood producer, heard about the non profit and wanted to give back though his organization – MOTOvational, a motorcycle organization that helps nonprofits raise money.
As the Producer and Director of “Why We Ride,” among other movies, Carroll is getting ready to put on the Sturgis Rally Wrap Party. Bringing Hollywood to Sturgis, Carroll’s goal is to offer a Hollywood party to wrap up the Sturgis Rally. “We noticed that there’s all these events that start the party, but nothing wraps it. In Hollywood, we love nothing more to party when it’s the end of the event, and that’s the wrap party. So that’s what we’re doing here. We started this last year. It’s for a great cause. But what is it? It’s literally like a Hollywood premiere. You show up. The first thing you get when you donate is an awesome shirt. These are made custom every year. “
Carroll goes on to explain that you can expect all the stops while attending the wrap party. You will be greeted by an event coordinator and also get to walk the red carpet. The party consists of a cocktail party where you will get to meet Kelly Patterson. The attire does stray from the traditional black and leather that monopolizes the Sturgis Rally. The wrap party is featuring a theme of Hawaiian style including the food.
“So we have an amazing set up with pineapple and ham and all kinds of really fun island fare. And about an hour after that, you’re going to come inside and that’s when the two really come together. Amazing old motorcycles, they are intertwined inside there with palm leaves and Hollywood lights. And then we’re going to have our stage set up and our stage is going to be just like a big Hollywood stage with the lights and the flares and the cameras and all that kind of fun stuff.”
The wrap party will also feature an amazing dinner with teriyaki chicken and Hawaiian coleslaw. But the highlight of the evening will be an auction featuring all kinds of memorabilia.
Carroll says, “There’ll be a lot of cool people there. We have Harley Davidson’s people out there. We have a lot of locals who like to come to it. It’s not just for motorcycle people, it’s for everybody. And if you really want to help out, so come on out. It’s a great way to come and enjoy the rally in a very different way and have some fun with me and my Hollywood friends.”
