RAPID CITY, S.D. — Dr. Lori Simon, Superintendent of the Rapid City Area Schools, announced on Monday that HomeSlice Media Group has offered to host prom for RCAS juniors and seniors after graduation.
RCAS cancelled prom last week in an attempt to mitigate the COVID-19 pandemic. Dr. Simon said that RCAS is hoping to remain at Level 1 (low/minimal spread) throughout the rest of the school year so that graduation can take place in-person.
“Our goal is to stay at Level 1, to keep our kids in school and to see our graduates this year walk across the stage, in front of their families and friends in May, and we were just so fearful that a super-spreader event that would bring together 12, 14, 15 hundred students could jeopardize that,” said Dr. Simon.
Brad Jurgensen with HomeSlice Media Group was present to answer questions. He says they are looking forward to working with parents and members of the community to make the event a success.
“Everybody’s just trying to do their best to put together an event the kids will like,” Jurgensen said.
More updates are expected in the coming weeks as the project is finalized.
