RAPID CITY, S.D. — Horace Mann Elementary in Rapid City hosted their first-ever Leadership Day for students and their families.
The students took part in skill building exercises, such as a soak-n-wet competition, where students learned the power of public speaking.
The day also highlighted the students exemplifying the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, a book by Franklin Covey.
Horace Mann teachers say that the day was a great opportunity to showcase how students can become leaders.
“We are the only Leader In Me school in Rapid City – so that’s really exciting – and one of three in South Dakota, so this is a way for our students to celebrate and share their knowledge of learning the seven habits with their community and families,” said fifth grade teacher Emily Moody.
Moody adds the day was about putting the kids in different situations to get them accustomed to future challenges.
