HOT SPRINGS, S.D. — The Hot Springs School District celebrated Veterans Day with a ceremony at the high school, which was open to everyone.
There was a presentation of the colors by the American Legion, a slide show honoring the community’s vets, as well as the folding of the flag by the middle school student council. The Hot Springs school choir performed with the ceremony ending with the American Legion retiring the colors.
One man who served in Vietnam was in attendance, and he told us what it means to him to be a veteran.
Marc Lamphere, Vietnam War veteran said, “That’s pretty tough to try and explain, but it’s a deep honor to be here and to be honored. Of course, by young kids that some of them don’t know and the only way they are going to learn is through a program like this.”
The Hot Springs schools host this event to show appreciation to the men and women who have served in the armed forces.
