CUSTER STATE PARK, S.D. — The Scarecrow Garden is an opportunity for local businesses, civic organizations and individuals to display a scarecrow at the Custer State Park Visitor Center.
This event is leading up to the popular festival of trees event that brings in the Holiday season.
There is no fee to participate in the Custer State Park Scarecrow Garden, however, a park entrance license is required to enter the park.
Visitors may vote on their favorite scarecrow in the Visitor Center starting Saturday, Oct. 24, 2020 through Halloween, Oct. 31, 2020.
Lydia Austin, Custer State Park Interpretive Programs Manager, says, “Working with our partners in the community and bringing folks down here, so it kind of merges the two events together and it’s just meant to have a fun thing at the visitors center and entice people to come out to the park and explore.”
Visitors can see the Scarecrow Garden Sept. 23- October 31.
Austin says, “They [scarecrows] will be voted on so as visitors come, we’ll put up a voting booth and they get to vote for the favorite scarecrow — you put your best effort into it and see what you can come up with for a scarecrow.”

After votes are tallied, the most popular scarecrow will be announced via Facebook and a prize package will be awarded to the winner.
The Buffalo Round up the Sept. 21-27. The park Halloween Hike is on Saturday, October 24th.
