RAPID CITY, S.D. — Storybook Island starting its annual Christmas Nights of Light celebration Friday night, welcoming families from across the Black Hills to the famous park.
The fundraising event has been held for more than two decades, with the money raised helping to keep the park open during the summer months.
Visitors can walk through the park – which is adorned with 20 miles of Christmas lights – for just $3 per person. Other activities dotted across Storybook Island mean that there’s really something for everyone.
“You can ride the train or carousel for just three dollars per person; stop by the ice cream shop for a cupcake, hot cocoa, eggnog, or our new Santa Shake in our souvenir mugs,” says Jackie Laws, executive director of Storybook Island.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be in attendance for much of the holiday season before heading back up to the North Pole to get some work done.
The reindeer will be in the park starting on December 10, on a little vacation before their big ’round-the-world ride.
