It’s Poochaween in Rapid City!

RAPID CITY, S.D. — Poochaween was celebrated Sunday in Rapid City at Tails ‘n Training. The event was complete with costumes, a cake walk, photos, an agility course, and more! Prizes and treats were given out to winners of the various contests, while the dog owners were able to make friends and share some laughs.

Rebecca Almy, owner of Tails and Training, talked about how the tradition began.

“We just started it on a whim as a costume contest and we had amazing result the first year,” she says. “Every year, we get dogs that keep coming back, and we get new dogs, so it’s definitely fun.”

Owners and dogs dressed up in their costumes and helped raise money for Oglala Pet Project. The Oglala Pet Project helps struggling pets from Pine Ridge get the care and help that they need if their owner isn’t able to provide it. They help cover vaccinations and foster pets that are looking for a new fur-ever home.

Jana Morehouse, Oglala Pet Project Board Member, discussed her gratitude and excitement for the event.

“One of the best things for us as a group is being able to see some of our foster pets that have been adopted by people in the community bring them back. Here, I’ve already seen about three that have been adopted last year,” she says.
