“Juke Box Heroes” – Central High School choir group to open for Foreigner in Rapid City

RAPID CITY, S.D. — A local high school choir getting ready for the opportunity of a lifetime.

Eight students from Central High will open for rock music legend Foreigner when they perform at The Monument this Friday night.

The ensemble of mostly juniors and seniors set to perform three a cappella hits.

CHS Head Choral Director Emily McGruther says the students only found out about two weeks ago the performance was happening.

McGruther said, “They have been working their tails off and are just incredible…it’s been awesome to see.”

In addition to opening for the band, Foreigner will make a $500 donation to the school’s choral program, which will help fund their Europe trip in the summer.

“We’re really excited…yeah, we’re all just really excited and we’re grateful to have this opportunity to go and open for them,” said Morgen MacDonald and Liz Parsons, both in 11th grade.

Jacob Sullivan (12th grade) and Isabelle Stein (11th grade) said, “I listen to some Foreigner as a kid…my mom likes their songs – she loves that we’re performing for them…it’s like woooh…yea, my mom too…when I told her she was like ‘oh my gosh that is so cool.’”

If you’re wondering why some have sunscreen, silly hair, and leis – Wednesday was also “tacky tourist” spirit day at Central!

The concert starts at 8 p.m. this Friday, September 10, in the Barnett Arena at The Monument.
