RAPID CITY, S.D. — An organization whose focus is encouraging the young Native American community and raising awareness for women who serve in the U.S. Armed Forces will be presenting the colors at the Rapid City Rush game on Saturday night.
Created in October of 2014, the Lakota Women Warriors organization was built to give recognition to Native American women who serve or have served in the Armed Forces.
They have presented colors at NFL and WNBA games, as well as at professional bull riding events.
The organization hopes to continue to provide direction and hope for a younger generation.
“If we could provide that for the younger girls and give them the opportunity to look at something else, that’s what we’re here for. Just be positive role models for them, someone that they can look up to and say ‘I want to be like that’,” said Kella With Horn, founding member of Lakota Women Warriors.
The Rush game marks the first hockey game that the Lakota Women Warriors have presented colors for.
